Aside from running a busy household which includes raising her two younger daughters Frankie and Miel, Megastar Sharon Cuneta is also busy gearing up for three new exciting shows. One of these is the newest talent search called "Star Power" which is set to premiere on October 10. Although her hectic work schedule is a pace she has grown to adapt to over the years, Sharon says she still feels lucky that her family is very understanding, especially when she’s starting new projects.
Sharon plays multiple roles in the show: host, judge, and mentor. She admits it was not easy to find potential stars that could embody everything she was looking for. She doesn’t have to be a genius, but she has to have a good mind, she has to have talent, she has to know how to stand in front of an audience and perform humbly. Sharon says the show hopes to develop the young hopefuls to their full potential and help develop them into genuine artists.
Sharon also stressed that it’s not just important for the Star Power contestants to have talent, but they should try to have originality as well. Contestants may all want to sound like Sarah (Geronimo) or Regine (Velasquez) or Celine (Dion) and it’s fantastic but they also have to develop their own style. We want them to keep what they already have, but also to develop something else that can be truly called their own.
As a judge, Sharon says she doesn’t see the need to be too harsh to be effective. She's not going to ruin someone’s spirit just for the ratings but she will certainly put people in their place if they need it, like a mother. According to Garlic Garcia, head writer of Star Power, the Megastar will show the audience a more personal side in the show. Helping the megastar in hosting Star Power are two products of reality singing contests themselves: Christian Bautista and Erik Santos.

Megastar Sharon Cuneta
Sharon Cuneta – Pangilinan or fondly called “The Megastar” of Philippine Entertainment is a popular and multi-awarded Filipino singer, actress and TV host. Her mother, Elaine Gamboa-Cuneta, hails from Santa Ana, Pampanga while her father Pablo Cuneta (1910–2000), was a mayor of Pasay City for four decades. She is half-Tagalog on her paternal side and one-fourth Kapampangan and one-fourth Spanish-American on her maternal side.
Cuneta first appeared on Philippine pop charts in 1978 as a 12 year old, singing "Mr. D.J." which was very popular and earned her the title of "D.J.'s Pet" (which was also the title of her first album). Other hit albums followed, and Cuneta was asked to sing on many movie soundtracks of the time - becoming the first "movie soundtrack star" in the country.
She starred in projects from Viva Films. At age of 15, her first feature film, 1981's Dear Heart paired her with fellow teeny-bopper Gabby Concepcion. The movie was a huge success thus crowning her as the Popular Teenage Queen of RP movies by Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (GMMSF).
Her early movie roles launched her as a "poor little rich girl". Although raised in an influential rich political family, she appealed to the socially rich and poor masses crowd of Philippine society, with her intelligence, humor and down-to-earth personality.
She started hosting with other teenage prodigies on GMA Supershow, later called Germspesyal, with German Moreno and C.U.T.E. (Call Us Two For Entertainment) with her aunt from Pampanga, former actress Helen Gamboa, via GMA7.
She paved her way to fame in the early 80's as a young recording artist and eventually made it successful as a teen actress. Being one of the top stars amongst her contemporaries, Cuneta earned acting awards in her early years in the business. Bukas Luluhod Ang Mga Tala was her history-breaking movie in 1984 and followed by another certified blockbuster Bituing Walang Ningning in 1985, and was tagged as The Philippines' Megastar.

History of Philippine Lotteries
Historically, lotteries have been in existence in the Philippines as early as 1833. Under the auspices of private enterprises called Empresa de Reales Loteria Espanolas de Filipinas, the Spanish Government conducted loterias to generate revenues. In fact, our own national hero Dr. Jose Rizal won Php 6,200.00 in the draw of 1892, while on exile in Dapitan. He donated his winnings to an educational project. This altruistic act gives an inkling of what could be done if the lottery was harnessed for charitable and social welfare projects.
With the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution, the loteria was forced to stop operations. And it was not until the early 1930s that the idea of holding lottery games was revived. In 1932, the first Sweepstakes draw was conducted by the government to raise funds to support sports projects for the Filipino youth through the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation (PAAF) - the beneficiary of the first draw.
The PAAF Sweepstakes was successful so Philippine government decided to conduct more draws for the benefit of the Philippine Anti-Tuberculosis Society, now the Philippine Tuberculosis Society (PTS). The draws were held under the auspices of an organization called the National Charity Sweepstakes .
